Mobilize Collective Action around Water Issues Through the Water Action Hub
Introduction
Catalog existing and prospective water stewardship efforts in your country!
The Water Action Hub is an online water stewardship knowledge sharing and collaboration tool developed by the CEO Water Mandate and the Pacific Institute.
The Hub helps companies and other organizations address their water risks and advance sustainable water management by:
-
Raising awareness of water stewardship projects around the world and the organizations administering them
-
Allowing organizations to propose new stewardship projects and garner interest among potential partners
-
Facilitating water stewardship partners and collective action
The Hub visually places organizations’ water stewardship projects as well as organization locations on a global map. Users can filter the hundreds of projects on the Hub by several different variables, including: country, region, type of project, SDG targets addressed, project status, and the types of organizations involved. From there, users can simply learn about the project or contact the project team to get involved.
Ultimately, the Hub aims to catalog and raise awareness of the vast network of water stewardship projects around the world. In doing so, it inspires action, helps share best practice and innovative ideas, and promotes collaboration among the many different organizations committed to addressing the world’s many water challenges.
Networks can advance stewardship through the Hub by:
-
Acting as country-level administrators for your country’s Water Action Hub page
-
Inviting companies and other organizations in your country to participate in the Hub
-
Creating an organization profile for your network
Country Pages
The Hub features a specific page dedicated to every country in the world. On each country page, the Hub catalogs and describes water stewardship projects in that area, as well as the organizations involved in them. From there, users can learn about these efforts, request to join them, or catalog their own water stewardship efforts. Ultimately, these pages help build a community of practice in your country that can share best practices and work together to manage shared challenges.
Each country page is managed by a country-level administrator. These administrators perform a variety of functions including:
-
Inviting new members to join
-
Encouraging existing members to update their profiles and share experiences and best practices
-
Facilitating discussions and forums that drive action and collaboration
-
Identifying and uploading resources that can support water stewardship action in that location
Networks can get involved by nominating a representative to act as country-level administrator for the Water Action Hub. Such administrators should have a high degree of knowledge of water stewardship efforts in that country, as well as a few hours a month available to help manage the site.
To nominate a representative, email Peter Schulte at: pschulte@pacinst.org.
Creating an Organization Profile for Your Network
In addition to profiles for water stewardship projects around the world, the Water Action Hub also features profiles for organizations involved in stewardship, including businesses, NGOs, government agencies, intergovernmental organizations, and others. Such profiles offer an opportunity for these organizations to describe their water stewardship efforts and identify potential partners for future stewardship projects.
We encourage networks to create their own organization profiles. Please refer to the guide in the playbook resources for more information on how to navigate the Hub. By creating a profile, this will allow new companies interested in water stewardship to contact with your network for more information. It will also allow networks to:
-
Share updates on their water stewardship efforts, including events, reports, etc.
-
Solicit feedback and participation on water-related projects
-
Catalyze collaboration and partnerships among their member companies.
